More Broken Than We Think

Believers desire clarity in their doctrine, ethics and moral outlook from a biblical perspective.

Certainly a worthy endeavor. But in this lifelong pursuit we run into many speed bumps as well as road blocks. The Bible simply doesn’t lend itself to a clear hermeneutic (science of interpretation) as much as we would like it to.

This is not to imply there is no clarity at all. Salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone is clear. The bodily resurrection of Jesus from the grave is clear. Marriage between a man and a woman is clear. I could go on about that which is clear. However, the rest of the book is silent or vague on many issues that cause church splits and a host of other problems.

The fact that we are broken, though redeemed, does not make everything clear. Share on X

The fact that we are broken, though redeemed, does not make everything clear. In a fallen world it is virtually impossible to understand the full revelation of God’s infallible truth. Brokenness means just that. Your part of brokenness sees scripture through a different lens than mine. This is where we extend grace and humility. When that day comes there will be far more unity than we have ever experienced.
